Ooooh, yes, I understand all too well, it was the same with my great-grandmother. We had to fetch water from the fountain. She would wash us in a basin and rinse us with a jug. Sometimes my little sister and I were cold. We'd go to bed with a brick heated by the only heater in the house, in the kitchen. It seems so long ago now... It's a beautiful and good reason to be grateful, really. Very well done my dear friend! I'm sending you lots of hugs and my best thoughts.
OMG, the things we take for granted! I, too am grateful for indoor plumbing, heating and electricity! And so many other things we have today that weren't even thought of in our parents and grandparents time. Thank goodness we don't have hike outside a ways to take care of our own plumbing!
I can only agree with the Sim! I'm more than grateful for all the comforts we have today (washing machine!!!, dishwasher, warm flat, bathroom ...). In the beginning, my grandparents also had an outside toilet, no bathroom and stove heating (at least in all rooms). And my mum still had to do all the washing by hand at the beginning ... uhhh My first flat also had an unheated kitchen, stove heating in the room and an outside toilet (1/2 a flight of stairs down). Compared to that, we live in paradise today. Have a good week my friend! Warm greetings from my corner to you!
Indoor plumbing is indeed something awesome to be grateful for. When i was little the house in which i grew up had no indoor plumbing. The outhouse was really at the back of our house behing the outside kitchen
Wonderful visual, and truth to the max. At our age, we have known years of lack, and watched the standard of living rise. We have much to be grateful for, and I most certainly am. (And it was a gargantuous black, furry caterpillars on the outhouse door that terrified me as a small child).

I never would have been a good person on the wagon train!!!
I had to use one of these awful things at grandma's house as a small child. So scared a spider would appear and bite me on the bottom!!
Oh yes, I remember the outdoor facilities very well! Always hated going out in the cold top! And yes, I was always afraid of snakes and spiders!
