Once upon a midnight dreary
While I pondered weak and weary
Over a poem the world has loved forevermore.
Suddenly there came a squawking
A dark and scary flocking
Of Ravens through my chamber door.
Only this and nothing more.
It was in a bleak October
And I swear that I was sober
While I watched said Ravens dancing
Dancing about my chamber floor
Then the birds said “Nevermore.”
All at once my teeth were gnashing
Glass was breaking,
things were crashing
Crashing on my chamber floor
’Tis the wind and nothing more!”
Presently my soul grew stronger
I couldn’t take this any longer
I sought the cause of my plight
And though it took most all the night
I found the answer I was hope’n
Lenore had left the windows open.
Merely this and nothing more.
